EverWind Fuels receives Environmental Assessment Approval for transmission line

Quantum Commodity Intelligence - Canadian green hydrogen/ammonia project developer EverWind Fuels has received Environmental Assessment Approval from the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change for a 2 GW overhead transmission line, the company said late last week.

The transmission line will move the renewable electricity from EverWind's Phase 2 onshore wind farms in Guysborough and St. Mary's to its Point Tupper facility located in Richmond to power its green hydrogen/ammonia project.

"Following approval of the transmission infrastructure, EverWind is preparing to register its Phase 2 Wind Farms for Environmental Assessment, beginning with Wind Farm 1 this summer, followed by Wind Farm 2 in late 2025, and Wind Farm 3 in early 2026," the developer said in its press release.

EverWind's Point Tupper green hydrogen/ammonia project is due to see Phase 1 (green ammonia from onshore wind and solar) become operational in 2026, with Phase 2 (onshore wind) operational in either 2027 or 2028 followed by Phase 3 (green fuels from onshore wind) in 2030.

The project "will meet the strict definitions of green fuels, including those set by the EC for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin [RFNBO]," the release said, suggesting that some of the volume has been slated to be transported to Europe once produced.

Indeed, in May last year, EverWind said that it will work with the Port of Rotterdam to aid the establishment of a green hydrogen supply chain between the two.
