Environmental markets reporter

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our commodity intelligence business at an early stage of our development.

The global carbon markets are changing rapidly as the voluntary carbon market will evolve over the next decade to a regulated one overseen by the United Nations. 

We are looking for an experienced environmental policy journalist or commodity market reporter to report on the development of this market, including the varying different prices paid for different carbon credits.

Day-to-day the role involves writing and breaking news in the voluntary carbon market as well as helping develop our commodity price assessments through contributing to daily price reporting.

We expect the role to involve 20% price reporting with the remaining time spent hunting down interesting news that impact supply and demand in this fast-growing space. International travel will be required.

Unlike many roles, we can guarantee a workspace where people's thoughts and experience have a direct impact on the business and on their own roles. We can also guarantee no two days will be the same.

Responsibilities

- Contribute to price discovery through developing and engaging contacts voluntary carbon markets
- Produce spot news stories on a daily basis that join the dots and unveil trends
- Produce high-quality longer-form journalism periodically
- Attend and report from industry and UN conferences internationally

Experience and competencies

- A minimum of two years’ experience in environmental or commodity markets
- Strong news writing skills
- Awareness of price discovery in opaque markets and what it entails
- The ability to juggle several tasks at once
- A hands-on attitude and a hunger to work as part of a team
- Proven experience as a self-starter that works well under pressure
- Fluent in English and preferably one other language

The biofuels markets across Europe are changing rapidly as shipping and aviation sectors seek to decarbonise. This will create huge demand for alternative fuels, such as sustainable aviation fuel and hydrotreated vegetable oil. 

We are looking for an experienced biofuels/energy reporter with a keen interest in writing about the energy transition to help build content for our biofuels platform.

Business Development Manager/Account Manager

We have an exciting opportunity to join our commodity intelligence business on the commercial side at a very early stage of our development.

We are looking for sales-focused, business development and account managers to help build our sales department as we seek to commercialise our news, prices and data services to a broad audience.

We believe it’s a rare opportunity to join a handful of highly-experienced journalists and energy industry professionals as we seek to fulfil our goal of becoming a leading one-stop shop that provides accurate, reliable and accessible news and data on energy and environmental markets.

While we have some ideas on the role, we expect the successful candidate to bring theirs by tapping into their own experience working in similar businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Identify potential users in both traditional and non-traditional industries to help build a database of potential clients
  • Raise our brand awareness at senior levels within larger organisations that have a need for energy and environmental data
  • Develop our product by providing user feedback
  • Help clients realise the value of what we bring
  • Close sales at all levels at the appropriate moment

Experience and competencies

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in commodity data sales, ranging from lead-sourcing to closing and renewing
  • A deep understanding of risk management and how data is used to mitigate risk
  • A proven track record of hitting targets and building networks in new areas
  • A hands-on attitude and a keenness to work as part of a small, fast-moving, hard-working team
  • Demonstrable experience as a self-starter that works well under pressure
  • Fluent in English and one other European language
